Unique Armor Pieces are armor pieces in Dark Souls III that do not explicitly belong to any set. Meaning, they are not found as a set in one specific location or not seen on any specific character in their entirety.
There are exceptions to this. The Thief Mask is worn with the Deserter Set for the Thief starting class. However, the mask has long been associated with the Black Leather Set from the two previous games. The same rationale applies to Pharis's Hat. Although not explicitly a part of the Leather Set, There is a Forest Hunter in Dark Souls seen wearing the hat with the rest of the set.
These unique pieces may be intended alternatives for other sets. For instance, It may be implied by the developers that the Ragged Mask was intended to be a part of the Master's Set, but due to the fact that Swordmaster does not drop the item and is not seen wearing it, it is a unique armor peice.
